What you should know
Ostriches are the largest birds in the world and cannot fly, but they can run faster than a horse at up to 45 miles per hour. They have huge, powerful legs with sharp claws that can deliver a kick strong enough to seriously injure or even kill a large animal or person. Always stay far away from ostriches and never approach one without a trained expert present.

An ostrich's eye is larger than its entire brain, making it the biggest eye of any land animal on Earth.
Staying safe around it
Treat it with respect, keep your distance, and tell a grown-up if you see one up close.
Always ask a grown-up before you touch any animal or plant. If something bites or stings you, tell an adult right away.
