Canis lupus familiaris

Dogs are one of the most popular pets in the world and are usually friendly and loving toward people they know. Even so, any dog can bite if it feels scared, hurt, or threatened, so always ask the owner before you pet a dog you have never met. Never bother a dog that is eating, sleeping, or caring for puppies.
A dog's sense of smell is up to 100,000 times more powerful than a human's, which is why trained dogs can sniff out hidden drugs, explosives, and even certain diseases like cancer.
Treat it with respect, keep your distance, and tell a grown-up if you see one up close.
Always ask a grown-up before you touch any animal or plant. If something bites or stings you, tell an adult right away.
