Canis lupus familiaris
Added to Mind of Animals by Ries
Dogs are one of the most popular pets in the world and are usually friendly and loving. Most dogs enjoy being petted and played with, but you should always ask the owner before approaching a dog you do not know, because even a gentle dog can bite if it feels scared or cornered. Never bother a dog that is eating, sleeping, or with puppies.
Dogs can smell things roughly 10,000 to 100,000 times better than humans, which is why they are trained to find missing people, detect drugs, and even sniff out certain cancers before doctors can.
Treat it with respect, keep your distance, and tell a grown-up if you see one up close.
Always ask a grown-up before you touch any animal or plant. If something bites or stings you, tell an adult right away.
