Giraffa camelopardalis
Added to Mind of Animals by Ries
Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth, using their super-long necks to reach leaves high up in acacia trees across the African savanna. They live in groups called towers and can gallop at up to 35 miles per hour. They are generally gentle around people, but their kick is powerful enough to seriously injure a person or knock out a lion, so always stay calm and keep a respectful distance.
A giraffe's tongue is about 18 inches long and dark bluish-purple, which many scientists think protects it from sunburn since giraffes spend hours every day pulling leaves off branches under the blazing African sun.
This one is genuinely harmless to people. Still look with your eyes and let it go about its day.
Always ask a grown-up before you touch any animal or plant. If something bites or stings you, tell an adult right away.
