## What you should know

Kangaroos are large, gentle-looking animals from Australia that hop on powerful back legs. They are not usually aggressive, but a cornered or scared kangaroo can kick very hard with those strong legs and even scratch with its claws. It is best to admire them from a safe distance and never approach a wild one.

A red kangaroo can leap over 9 feet high and cover 25 feet in a single bound, making it the highest-jumping mammal on Earth.
