Family Viperidae

Vipers are venomous snakes with long hollow fangs that fold flat when their mouth is closed and swing forward to inject venom when they strike. Florida is home to several vipers including the cottonmouth, copperhead, and three kinds of rattlesnakes. Never touch or go near a viper, and tell an adult right away if you see one.
Pit vipers have special heat-sensing pits between their eyes and nostrils that let them detect the warmth of a tiny mouse from over a foot away, even in complete darkness.
This one is venomous, which means it can put venom into you with a bite or a sting. Never touch it, and never try to move it yourself.
Always ask a grown-up before you touch any animal or plant. If something bites or stings you, tell an adult right away.
